Emil's past Projects

Emil Thibert is a Northwest Coast Artist of Salteaux/Cree/French heritage.  He discovered his ability to carve while studying the Kwakiutl style of Carl Simeon of Campbell River, British Columbia, over 26 Years ago.

Emil places heavy emphasis on his study of ancient pieces in all styles of the authentic Northwest Coast carving tradition.  He continues to create masks, wall plaques, paddles, rattles and totem poles in a variety of styles.  Emil considers carving as his way of ensuring precious traditions are preserved, for future generations.

The quality and uniqueness of Emil’s work is stunning.  As a single father, he raised his three children while supporting himself as an Artist.  He has also worked as a carving Instructor and support worker for the Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society.  Emil was raised in Alberta and now resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Emil’s work is highly sought after and collected worldwide.  When students in other countries are being instructed, it is his masks that are often cited as examples of the Canadian carving tradition.  You can find examples of Emil Thibert’s work in the New York museum, as well as a selection of the finest native art galleries in North America.
